Detailed competition rules

1. Eligibility

The competition is free to enter and is intended for United Kingdom residents aged 18 or over. One registration and one basket are permitted per person.

  • Employees, contractors and immediate household members of the promoter or its competition administrators may not enter.
  • Entrants may be asked for reasonable proof of age, residence and identity before a prize is awarded.

2. Entry and basket submission

Registration and completed baskets must be received by 7:30 p.m. UK time / 3:30 p.m. New York time on Friday 30 October 2026. A registration without a submitted basket is not a completed prize entry. A player may enter both MarketPickr leagues, but only one registration and one basket are permitted per person in each competition.

  • Select 10 securities representing 10 distinct companies from the 250 highest-weighted S&P 500 companies. The universe is frozen from the iShares IVV holdings snapshot dated 30 September 2026.
  • Companies are ranked by their combined constituent weight. The frozen universe contains 251 trading lines for 250 companies because Alphabet has two eligible share classes. You may select GOOG or GOOGL, but not both.
  • All ten positions are equally weighted. You may revise a saved draft, but submission permanently locks the basket.
  • No purchase, brokerage account or investment is required.

3. Scoring

Each stock return is calculated as ((closing price ÷ opening price) − 1) × 100. The basket score is the arithmetic mean of all ten unrounded stock returns. Rankings may be displayed in rounded form, but winner determination uses full calculation precision.

  • The competition period is presented as 1 November–31 December 2026. Because 1 November is a Sunday, the opening valuation is the official close on Friday 30 October.
  • Cash dividends are excluded, so scoring measures price return rather than total shareholder return.

4. Prices and market data

MarketPickr will use the official regular-session closing price published by each security’s primary listing exchange: the Nasdaq Official Closing Price for Nasdaq-listed shares and the NYSE official closing-auction price for NYSE-listed shares.

  • Opening valuation: 4:00 p.m. New York time on 30 October 2026.
  • Closing valuation: 4:00 p.m. New York time on 31 December 2026.
  • Daily provisional standings use complete closing-price files imported and validated by a MarketPickr administrator after each completed US market session. An incomplete or flagged file does not replace the previous valid leaderboard.
  • Before confirming a winner or paying a prize, MarketPickr will manually verify every opening and closing value used by the leading baskets against the applicable Nasdaq or NYSE official closing record.
  • If manual verification identifies a discrepancy, or an exchange later corrects an official value, MarketPickr will recalculate the affected results and publish the corrected final standings before awarding the prize.

5. Corporate actions and unavailable shares

Mandatory corporate actions will be handled consistently so that they do not create an artificial gain or loss. Ordinary cash dividends remain excluded.

  • Splits, reverse splits and stock dividends are adjusted for economic continuity; ticker changes follow the same underlying security.
  • Cash acquisitions use final cash consideration. Share or mixed mergers convert the holding using the published exchange ratio and any cash component.
  • Suspended securities use their last valid official close through the closing date. Delisted securities use definitive consideration where available; cancelled shares with no recovery are valued at zero.
  • Spin-offs and other mandatory distributions use a published administrator adjustment preserving pre-event economic value.

6. Ties

Ties are resolved using the unrounded basket score, then the highest individual-stock return, followed by each next-highest constituent return in descending order. If entries remain tied, the earliest valid locked basket ranks higher.

7. Prize and winner verification

One £250 cash prize is funded by MarketPickr, with no minimum entrant threshold. The provisional winner will be contacted using their private account email and has 14 days to provide their legal name, proof of age and UK residence, and payment details. If they are ineligible or do not respond in time, the next-ranked valid entrant will be considered. Payment will be made in GBP by bank transfer within 30 days after successful verification.

  • Any tax liability is the winner’s responsibility.
  • The public winner list uses the entrant’s chosen public username and winning basket. Identity and verification evidence remain private, although MarketPickr may provide evidence of a valid award to the Advertising Standards Authority if required.

8. Fair play and disqualification

MarketPickr may reject or disqualify entries involving false eligibility information, duplicate accounts, collusion, tampering, attempted manipulation, exploitation of a clear technical or data error, abusive conduct, or failure to meet the published entry requirements.

9. Privacy and publication

Email addresses and winner-verification documents are kept private. Public usernames, selected baskets, results and leaderboard positions may be displayed publicly. Personal data is handled as described in the MarketPickr Privacy & Cookies notice.

10. Complaints and changes

MarketPickr is the promoter and funds the prize from its own resources. Questions or complaints may be submitted through the contact details published on the MarketPickr website. Material rules will not be changed after entry opens unless unavoidable circumstances require it and entrants are not unfairly disadvantaged.

11. Suspension, postponement and cancellation

MarketPickr may suspend, postpone or cancel the competition only where circumstances beyond its reasonable control—including irrecoverable market-data failure, exchange disruption, a serious security incident or a legal or regulatory requirement—make a fair and verifiable result impossible.

  • MarketPickr will first take reasonable steps to preserve valid entries, obtain corrected official data or apply a fair alternative permitted by these rules.
  • Affected entrants will be notified as soon as reasonably possible.
  • The competition may be voided without a prize only where no fair and verifiable winner can be determined. This does not limit entrants’ statutory rights.
