Legal information

Privacy & Cookies

How MarketPickr uses information to operate accounts, competitions and fair results.

Effective 2 October 2026

Information we use

MarketPickr is the controller of personal data used to operate accounts and competitions. We collect the public username and private email supplied when an account is created, a one-way password hash, account and approval status, competition registrations, rules acceptances, stock selections, scoring results, leaderboard positions, and security or administrative records. We never store your passphrase in readable form.

If you are a provisional winner, we may also request your legal name, proof of age, proof of UK residence and payment details. Those documents are used only to verify eligibility and pay the prize.

Why we use it

We use account and competition information to provide the service and perform the competition contract. We use security, fraud-prevention, administration and audit information for our legitimate interests in running fair competitions and protecting MarketPickr and its players. Where the law requires it, we use information to meet legal obligations.

Public information

Your username is public. Selected baskets, results, leaderboard positions and a winner’s basket may also be displayed publicly. Your email, legal identity, eligibility evidence and payment information are not published.

Storage, sharing and transfers

Information is stored in MarketPickr’s account and competition systems and may be processed by service providers supporting hosting, databases, security, communications, market data and payments. We require providers to protect personal data and use it only for the agreed service.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, MarketPickr will use an applicable adequacy decision or contractual and organisational safeguards required by UK data-protection law.

Retention

Account information is kept while the account is active. Security records are normally retained for 12 months. Unsuccessful winner-verification documents are deleted within 30 days of the decision. Prize, payment, rules-acceptance and competition audit records are retained for six years after the competition closes where needed for accounting, legal claims and evidence that the competition was administered fairly.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to or correction of your information, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Requests can be made using the contact details supplied in MarketPickr account communications. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and local storage

MarketPickr does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. An essential HttpOnly security cookie keeps you signed in and links your browser to a random server-side session; it is not available to page scripts. A separate essential cookie protects the owner console. Limited local browser storage may remember non-authoritative interface state, but account, entry and basket records are held server-side.

If optional analytics, advertising or similar non-essential technologies are introduced, they will remain disabled until a visitor has made an informed choice.

Keeping this notice current

We may update this notice when the service, providers or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the version currently in force.
